Spacelab Nikolaj 'The Champ' Hess - Piano / Wurlitzer / Organ Anders 'AC 'Christensen - Accoustic / Electric Bass Mikkel Hess - DrumsSpacelab continously celebrates their 25 year anniversary. Dating back to shared childhood in Vejle, Denmark, it is still unclear when this group was actually formed - but the musical explorations feels like they are really just getting started.
Spacelab released their long anticipated first album 'Spacelab - The Champ' in 2010. The album was produced by the now legend Jens Mikkelsen and features the music of Nikolaj 'The Champ' Hess in full glory. The album is a celebration of the 7 year long (and ongoing) residency that Spacelab has held at Copenhagen Jazzhouse with Nikolaj as the bandleader. A late night series that over the years has turned into one of the praised traditions of The Copenhagen Jazzfestival.
Spacelab was named one lengthy night in Copenhagen 1997 under the influence of Violin, Piano and Percussion.
Nikolaj Hess NH has released numerous albums as a leader / composer / producer and can be heard on more than 100 releases all together, latest album is "Trio" with Kenny Wollesen & Tony Scherr. Made music for and played in Lars Von Triers "Melancholia". NH plays/has played with Lee Konitz, Benny Golson, Hess Is More, Global Motion, Fela Kuti and many many others. www.nikolajhess.com
Anders 'AC' Christensen AC is the ace of bass. Played/plays with Raveonettes, Paul Motian Electric Bebop Band, Tomasz Stanko, Savage Rose, etc etc etc. Latest album AC Trio "Dear Someone" with Aaron Parks & Paul Motian. Film music for Omar Shargawis latest movies, among them "Go with Peace Jamil"
Mikkel Hess Founder of Hess Is More, which he directs, composes for, sings and plays drums, bass, etc in. Also a prolific film and theater composer (Royal Theater, Royal Ballet, short and feature films) Mikkels very personalized jazz drumming can be heard on several award winning albums, among them the collaborative "You shouldn't do this if you are in a hurry" featuring Chris Potter on sax. www.hessismore.com
